Accurate’s Los Angeles Special Edition takes the proven Tern 2 400 and wraps it in a custom Los Angeles blue finish, a limited run for anglers who want to rep the city on the water. It is built to fish, not just to look at: this is the same high-speed 400 that has become a Southern California staple, and it is a natural fit for the 25 lb flyline fishing that is a mainstay on the local grounds and out at the islands.

The Tern 2 400 is one of the most balanced reels in the lineup, not too wide, not too narrow. It excels at casting live bait and throwing smaller lures like surface irons, jigs and stickbaits, and it handles a wide range of line from 20 to 50 lb. For the flyline work we do off the SoCal coast and around the islands, the 25 lb class sits right in its wheelhouse.

Machined in the USA

This is an American-made reel from Accurate, a Southern California company. The frame is cut from 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum and turns on stainless steel gears and shafts, built to take the salt and the heavy drag loads that come with local yellowtail and tuna fishing.

TwinStarDrag and XCT cast control

Accurate’s TwinStarDrag applies pressure to both sides of the main gear at once. That gives you a smooth, consistent startup and a higher usable drag, 24 lb on the 400, without the grabby feel of a single-plate system. The reel also runs Accurate’s XCT centrifugal cast control: a simple, set-it-and-forget-it brake-block system that tunes spool speed and shrugs off corrosion, unlike some of the magnetic controls out there. It comes with the comfortable rubber knob that most SoCal anglers prefer for all-day fishing.

High-speed only, right or left hand
